Why are we celebrating the Wonder of Water?

What: The importance of water is too often overlooked. For more than 30 years, the American Water Works Association has celebrated National Drinking Water Week with its members. During the first full week in May, utilities, their communities and other groups across the country celebrate our most precious natural resource with fairs, programs, contests and other exciting events. Wonder of Water is the set national theme for Water Week. City of Irving participates by having an annual Water Festival in May.

Why: It is a unique opportunity for both water professionals and the consumers they serve to join together to recognize the vital role water plays in our daily lives. Our Water Festival is an excellent way to educate the public, connect with the community, and promote ideas, best practices, services, and products. The goal of this event is to have a day of water education and fun increasing the awareness and appreciation of water resources and issues throughout our area. Some of the major issues that our utility faces include, Drinking Water Conservation, Oil and Grease Management, Storm Water Quality, and Sanitary Sewer Overflows.

Where: The event will take place outdoors at the new Valley View Municipal Complex, 333 Valley View Ln Irving, TX 75061.

When: Saturday May 12, 2007 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Who: The City of Irving Water Utility Employees will host the festival in partnership with a number of organizations, businesses, sponsors, and exhibitors. Last year’s inaugural festival was a success and had 600-800 people attend. The festival is geared towards the community. There will be federal, state, and local agencies and offices here to share their information and time on the subject of water.

How: We intend to have exhibits, demonstrations, games, fishing, food and beverages, music, and most importantly an abundance of information on topics like storm water, water quality, conservation, water pollution etc. The one reason why every one should stop by is because it is all FREE!!!
