Irving Water Utilities Community Relations
As part of the Irving's Strategic plan we are working towards building a relationship with our community, citizens, and public schools. We strive for better communication with our citizens, and aim to educate them on the major issues that Irving Water Utilities faces. As a utility we continue to take a more proactive approach in outreach efforts for our citizens. | One of our efforts was that we held the wonder of water festival out at the new complex. Our utility staff spent the day sharing and informing residents about their jobs, services and equipment. Organizations from all over the metroplex attended and educated the public on their role in the water industry. There were many fun games and activities, so that it was a fun event not just educational. | | | We have also worked with the school districts in Irving to host a poster and photo art contest. The objective of the contest was to increase students’ awareness in water related issues, and to sensitize them as future leaders to global water challenges. Students at the JH and HS level submitted artwork that focused on water issues and the Wonder of Water theme. The major incentives for participation were monetary awards to winning teachers and students. | | At the beginning of the 06-07 school year, Irving Water Utilities partnered with Council for Environmental Education to bring an environmental education program to the City of Irving school districts. WET in the City is a program that seeks to advance water education and environmental stewardship among urban youth. Irving teachers are given the opportunity to attend workshops that teach them how to implement activities in their classrooms. Activities are engaging, easy to use, fun, and cover the concepts that are tested on the state TAKS examinations. | |
