GED Classes and Testing

 General Information

The GED (General Equivalency Diploma) is designed as an alternative to the high school diploma. Upon completion of the GED program, individuals are empowered to pursue higher levels of education and/or careers of their choice.

Eligibility Requirements

Classes

The Irving Public Library is proud to be the home of one of the most successful GED programs in Dallas County.

Free classes are offered by tutor Leotis Fenceroy at the Southwest Branch during the following times:

Monday, 1 to 9 p.m.
Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

GED program registration and assessments take place on Monday and Wednesday between 3 and 4 p.m. only. All new students must take a placement test before instruction begins. This enables the instructor to prepare a plan for the student to successfully complete the coursework as quickly as possible. Expect your initial session to last about two hours.

The time of completion depends on the work of the instructor and student. Timed practice tests, similar to those given at testing centers, determine when the student is ready to take the exam.

You may call (972) 721-2356 to leave a message for Mr. Fenceroy, but due to the demands of his schedule, it is recommended that you visit the library during the above hours.

Classes in Spanish

Free classes are offered in Spanish at these locations and times:

Testing Centers

The following testing centers administer the GED test for a cost of $65; retests cost $15.

All tests are given by appointment only.

Test Results and Diplomas

GED test scores are usually sent to the instructor by the testing center. Certificates are mailed to students two to three weeks after testing is completed by the GED Division of the Texas Education Agency in Austin.
