Q. What is a Housing Inspector and what are their duties?

A. Housing Inspectors work with City of Irving Ordinances that cover all groups of housing.

Their duties include:

Inspecting and monitoring City of Irving housing to ensure compliance to minimum standards as listed in Chapters
- 8, of the City of Irving's Development Code.
- 8A, of the City of Irving's Development Code.
- 8B, of the City of Irving's Development Code.
- 8C, of the City of Irving's Development Code.
- 8D of the City of Irving's Development Code.
Conducting residential home inspections based on complaints the Code Enforcement Division receives from citizens.

Q. What kind of housing inspections are required?

A.

Housing inspections include four-plexs, apartment complexes, hotels and motels.
Irving has 492 complexes which require two routine inspections per year in addition to re-inspections.
Multi-family housing inspections are conducted to ensure minimum housing standards in an ongoing effort to identify and prevent health and safety violations.
Violations are noted in the following areas during inspections: electrical, plumbing and building.

Q. What will happen if the violation is not abated?

A. If the violation is not handled, the next step may include:

A code compliance conference
A hearing before the Building and Standards Commission
Citations, (all Code Enforcement Inspectors have citation authority.)
