This unit is comprised of four officers and one sergeant. The purpose of this unit is to work with residents, businesses, apartment communities, civic groups and social organizations of Irving to help people become aware of crime in their areas and ways to help the police department reduce it.
The unit does educational programs and crime prevention presentations along with acting as a liaison between these groups and the police department. The unit also does security surveys, coordinates the Neighborhood Crime Watch groups, Citizens Police Academy and Irving Citizens On Patrol (ICOP) program.
This unit also manages the Crime Free Multi-Housing Program and enforces the Mandatory Crime Reduction Ordinance which are both designed to reduce crime and improve quality of life in the multi-family communities. The City of Irving Convenience Store Ordinance is also managed by the Crime Prevention Unit.
