A Contractor’s Registration Form  is required in order to register as any of the following types of contractors:
  • Concrete
  • Electrical
  • Fence
  • General contractor
  • House moving
  • Irrigation
  • Mechanical (HVAC)
  • Plumbing
  • Sign
  • Maintenance worker (plumbing and mechanical for apartments only)
  • Fuel Tank Installer

A Commercial Permit application  is needed for any of the following:

  • Commercial and multifamily (4 units and more):  remodel, finish-out, repair, or addition
  • New building
  • Commercial carports
  • Parking lots (new and re-stripes)
  • Door locks (special egress devices, such as magnetic locks, card readers, etc.)
  • Fire alarms, fire sprinklers, fire lines, and fire hydrants
  • Fuel tanks (above and underground)
  • Tents (greater than 400 sq. ft.) and canopies (greater than 1,600 sq. ft.)
  • Temporary use permits [uses listed in Zoning Ord. 1144 Sec 52-34]
  • Construction trailers (used as offices--not equipment trailers)
  • Fire repairs
  • Demolitions
  • Retaining walls
  • Commercial swimming pools
  • Equipment building for an antenna
  • Modular buildings
  • Re-roofing
  • Etc.

A Garage Sale Permit  is required to have a garage sale.  This is only for residential property.  Only two garage sales are allowed per calendar year.  Signage can only be put out ONLY from Friday noon to Monday noon and cannot be located in the medians or on traffic signs or telephone poles.  ***If you do not have your garage sale when it was permitted for, you MUST contact us so it can be rescheduled, otherwise we assume you had sale.  Garage Sale permits can be cancelled and rescheduled only once.***

A Fence Permit is required to erect a new fence or repair an existing fence.

A Residential Permit application is needed for any of the following:

  • Residential remodel, new house, or addition
  • Carport
  • Retaining walls over 30" tall (measured from adjacent grade to the top of the wall)
  • Swimming pools, spas, or hot tubs
  • Accessory buildings over 6' in any dimension (height, width, or length)
  • Fire repair
  • Duplex, triplex, or townhouse (repairs, remodels, additions)
  • Mobile home setups/move-ins/stair and landing/porch
  • Patio covers, gazebos, pergolas
  • Decks over 30" above adjacent grade
  • Paving/flatwork more than 120 square feet (except walkways on private property not more than 4' wide)
  • Driveway approaches
  • Foundation repair
  • Etc.

A Temporary Use Permit  requiring City Council approval is required anytime a food establishment desires to hold an outside special event in which they will serve food and alcohol outside of their normal RAB zoning limits. Details for any event including outdoor music or noisy entertainment should be submitted to the Planning and Inspections Department for review.

A Residential Roofing Permit  is needed for re-roofing a house, duplex, triplex, or townhouse.  (for commercial or apartments/condominiums, use the commercial permit application)

A Sign Permit application is needed for any sign (e.g. monument, wall, pole, pylon sign, grand opening).  NOTE:  Banners are now prohibited, except with a grand opening permit.

A Certificate of Occupancy  application is needed for any commercial space that will be occupied by a tenant. A certificate of occupancy is not required for residential single-family, duplex, or triplex structure.

An Irrigation Permit application  is needed for lawn sprinklers with double checks.

An Electrical Permit application  is needed for a single trade permit for electrical work, clean and shows, and utility releases.

A Plumbing Permit application  is needed for a single trade permit for plumbing work, including water heater replacements.

A Mechanical Permit application  is needed for a single trade permit for heating, venting, and air-conditioning.

Vouchers are for sub trades to fill out after a combination building permit is obtained. The  electrical voucher , plumbing voucher , and mechanical voucher  can be faxed to us at (972) 721-2481.

An On-Site Utility Permit application is needed for any new utility (domestic, water storm, sanitary sewer, and gas) on private commercial property. This permit is not needed for utilities in easements or in the right-of-way. This permit is not for underground piping for fire protection water, (hydrants or sprinklers).

An Annual Outdoor Parking Lot application  is needed for the outdoor parking of vehicles where such parking is permitted upon payment. Permits are good from Aug. 1 through Aug. 31 of the following year.

An Antenna Permit application  is needed for an antenna mounted on buildings or on existing towers or poles (co-locates).

A New Antenna Tower Permit application  is for a new telecommunication tower with antenna.

A House Moving Permit application  is needed for moving any building or structure over 8' wide within or through the city.

An Earthwork and Tree Removal Permit application  is required to fill, grade, or excavate property or to remove protected trees.

A Block Party application is required for a temporary street closure for the purpose of conducting a neighborhood block party.
