The City of Irving celebrated the life and achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at its annual observance in Carpenter Theatre at the Irving Arts Center.  The 2014 program theme was The Ministry of Dr. King From the Pulpit to the Nation.  The program, which recounted Dr. King's early years, theological training, entrance into the Civil Rights Movement, was a resounding success.  A full house enjoyed performances by the Dallas Black Dance Theatre II, vocalist Brenda Ellis, violinist Richmond Punch, Marquinn Middleton and the Miracle Chorale and the actors of "The Upper Room - The Martin and Mahalia Story".  The moving theatrical production starred Sheran Goodspeed Keyton as Mahalia Jackson and Donavan Wheatfall as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
