The City of Irving held its annual two-part celebration of America’s independence on Friday, July 4, 2014. The festivities continue to be a tradition for many area families, with a range of activities in multiple locations across Irving.
The fun began with the downtown parade, voted 'Best Community Event' in both 2012 and 2013. The parade featured entries by community groups, individuals and businesses. It was followed by a reception at Heritage Park, featuring a concert by the Kenny Chavez Combo, free watermelon and children's activities.
On Friday evening approximately 10,000 people gathered along Lake Carolyn for the fireworks show. The fun started with free activities and rides for children, a wide range of food vendors and a concert by Journey tribute band ESCAPE. The Irving Symphony followed, with a spectacular fireworks show to finish the night.
