Fritz Park Petting Farm About the Farm:
The Fritz Park Petting Farm opened in June 1970 under the supervision and direction of the City of Irving Parks and Recreation Department.
The petting farm is a place where children of all ages can see animals up close and actually touch and pet them. This experience would otherwise not be available to many people residing in urban areas.
The petting farm provides a peaceful setting where visitors can enjoy the animals in a clean, well-shaded environment. A variety of animals, such as cows, horses, goats, sheep, chickens, deer, turkeys, rabbits, and even peacocks, reside at the farm. Visitors will observe eggs hatching in the incubator and chicks in various stages of development. Come watch the ducks and geese play as they swim and dive in their pond. The petting farm isn't just fun - it's educational as well! Children come with their school classes, and with their parents and grandparents.
Special Program:
Day-care centers, school classes and private groups can make reservations for guided tours of the petting farm. Staff will give a personal introduction to the animals and provide an educational experience for the children. Tours usually last about 30 minutes and can be scheduled between 10 a.m. and noon Tuesday through Friday. Call the Fritz Park Petting Farm at (972) 721-2640 to make a reservation.
Farm Volunteers:
Children 12 years of age or older may become petting farm volunteers if they possess the ability to follow directions, have a strong sense of responsibility, and a love for animals and children. Volunteers help in many ways at the petting farm: assist in the feeding of animals; help maintain a clean environment for both the animals and visitors; and assist staff in other ways, such as showing the animals. Volunteers provide an invaluable service on the petting farm, and we truly appreciate their contribution. The volunteers benefit from the program, which gives them the opportunity to work and learn. The number of volunteers is limited, so come to the Fritz Park Petting Farm early in the summer to assist.
Hours of Operation:
The petting farm is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday (weather permitting) during the months of June and July.
The petting farm is located at Fritz Park in Irving, easily accessible from anywhere in the Metroplex. Admission is free.
