Outdoor Warning System Provides Safety During Sever Weather
To help alert residents of inclement weather, the city is equipped with an outdoor warning system that consists of 24 sirens strategically located throughout Irving.
Though they may be heard indoors, the purpose of the sirens is to warn residents who are outside of approaching severe weather. When sounded during an emergency situation, the sirens indicate that high winds, large hail, a tornado, or other weather emergencies are imminent for Irving.
Once activated, the sirens sound a steady tone and will rotate 360 degrees. The warning tone will fade and then get louder as it rotates. This will occur several times throughout the activation.
The outdoor warning system is tested on the first Wednesday of every month at 1 p.m., weather permitting. For more information, call the Emergency Management Office at (972) 721-2100.
