Irving Code Enforcement Initiatives Produce Visible Results

Additional improvements have been made to Irving’s aesthetic appeal through the enforcement of stricter code guidelines for businesses and residential properties. These enhancements have been implemented to increase standards and the number of tools available for enforcement.

Over the past year, several code guidelines have been revised and new programs have been created to help address areas in Irving that need to be cleaned up to help foster a visually appealing city. These efforts maintain the city’s physical appearance, increase safety and ensure stable property values.

Focus areas experiencing stricter enforcement include:
  • Apartments
  • Building and Standards
  • Parking
  • Auto Shops
  • Abandoned Signs
New programs include:
  • Community Service Cleanups – assigns volunteers to various cleanups for community service projects.
  • Community Service Worker Program – uses community service workers who need to pay their citations.
  • Tudor Lane Initiative – a joint intiative with the Police Department has yielded several improvements along Tudor Lane to help reduce crime and clean up the area.
  • Miscellaneous Improvements – improved various administrative processes through internal review; converted resident code notices to door hangers; and implemented wireless capability for field inspectors.

“So far, the results of our elevated code enforcement efforts have been substantial,” said Teresa Adrian, code enforcement director. “Many changes have already taken place. We’re excited about the progress and anticipate many more noticeable enhancements in the near future.”

Staff continues to look at other beautification projects and code enhancements that will help promote an even nicer community for residents to enjoy. For more information, call Code Enforcement at (972) 721-2371.
