Fall Master Composter Course Available to Irving Residents

Interested in becoming a master composter? The Fall Master Composter Course has been scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 20 and 27 at the Family Advocacy Center, 600 W. Pioneer Drive.

Students will receive in-depth knowledge of backyard composting including cold and fast composting, problem-solving techniques and instructions on how to compost with worms. Students also will participate in building bins, attend a tour to Irving’s Hunter Ferrell Landfill, learn more about recycling and the application of organics in gardening.

Course graduates will receive a compost bin, T-shirt and certificate. Upon completion of the course, students will be asked to give 40 hours of volunteer time in the form of educational outreach to teach others. Once achieving 20 volunteer hours, students will receive a compost thermometer.
