The Bear Creek Masonic Lodge served not only the African-American masons of the area but it also served as a community center. Proms, parties, luncheons and a host of other activities were held in the building over the years. The lodge was moved from its original site into the Jackie Townsell Bear Creek Heritage Center and converted into a museum that tells the history of the African-American experience from the time of emancipation through the Civil Rights movement of the 1950s-60s.
