     The file contains a 22-page biography of Pete Gifford, Sr. and a history of the early days of Gifford-Hill & Co. Inc.  Also included is information on company co-founder Rutledge “Perch” Hill, Sr. The material was written by Pete Gifford, Jr., son of Pete Gifford, Sr. in 1999. Gifford-Hill Company was formed in Dallas, Texas, in 1926. The company dredged gravel, made concrete and concrete pipe, and did excavation work. Among other projects, the company worked on railroads, bridges, warehouses, and dredging. They did some of the dredging on the extension of the Houston Ship Channel and did the excavation work for the Cotton Bowl.
