Description

In 1962, the city of Irving opened a municipal library. Prior to that, Irving had a privately run library that received funding from Dallas County, private donations, and the city of Irving. When the city opened the municipal library, the private library closed. The private library owned some real estate in Irving and a dispute arose over whether the city or the county would be given possession of the property. The file contains newspapers articles addressing the early phases of the municipal library’s development and opening and the dispute over the allocation of the funds from the land in question. Also included is an invitation to the dedication of the first addition to the municipal library in 1965.
