     The file contains a newspaper article from the November 19, 1959, issue of the Irving News-Record entitled “Chamber of Commerce Elects Seven New Directors." Betty Jefferson was the first woman elected to the board. The file also contains an article from the January 22, 1961, issue of The Irving Daily News Texan entitled “Careers, Home Life Mix Well.” Betty Jefferson is one of the women featured as a working mother. The Jeffersons moved to Irving in 1946. Betty Jefferson was the first employee of the Retail Merchants Association in Irving. The association was a forerunner to credit bureaus. She worked for the association until the 1970s.
