CITATION:  Mary Kathryn Clyatt/Martha Ann Trate Irving High School Scrapbook, Collection 34, Irving Archives, Irving Public Library.

Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of a scrapbook relating to Irving High School during the years 1937-1940.  Mary Kathryn (Lively) Clyatt and Martha Ann Trate attended Irving High School and are members of the graduating class of 1940.  The scrapbook was put together by Mrs. Clyatt, who gave it to Martha Trate.

The scrapbook is primarily made up of issues of the Irving High School newspaper the Tiger Rag from the years 1937 to 1940.  There are three issues from the fall of 1937; the entire run from the spring and fall of 1938; one issue from February of 1939; and most of the issues from the spring of 1940.  Also included in the scrapbook is a publication entitled “Who’s Who in Irving High School, 1939-1940,” a senior class play program from the 1940 senior play "The Campbells are Coming," a commencement program, 1940; and newspaper clippings about the senior play and graduation activities.  An obituary for Kenneth Warren, a 1940 graduate, who was struck by and car in the fall of 1940, is also included in the scrapbook.

For preservation purposes, the newspapers have been removed from the scrapbook and placed in an oversize acid-free folder.  Acid-free paper has been interleaved between the issues.
