Materials in the Archives are usually unique and often fragile. They do not circulate, but copies can be made unless the originals are too fragile to copy without risking damage. However, the copyright laws of the United States place some limits on copying.
Donors may have restricted access to portions of their collections.
Collections that are partially processed or unprocessed may not be available for use until processing has been completed.
The Archives staff will ask that you complete an application form. The application details guidelines for using and handling archival materials.
The Archives presents programs on archival topics, on its holdings, and on the history of Irving. Tours of the facility are also available. If your organization would like to hear such a presentation, or to arrange for a tour, please call (972) 721-3729.
Using its historical records and photographs, the Archives produces exhibits in the Library and in the Civic Center, located at 825 W. Irving Blvd.
The Irving Archives offers a secure storage facility for your historical records and those of your club, organization, business, church, and/or family. The records will be preserved here and made available for use. Many individuals and groups need a secure, accessible place to store their priceless historical records. For lack of such a facility in which to preserve them, these materials are sometimes put at risk in attics and garages. If you would like to discuss donating your records, please call (972) 721-3729.
