How can I find out about job opportunities with the City of Irving? |

What jobs can I apply for? |

Applications are accepted only for positions that are currently open and may be submitted until 5:00 p.m. on the closing date. Most positions have specified minimum qualifications. The minimum age requirement for regular full-time and part-time employment is 18; for seasonal employment, the minimum age is 16. |

Yes, you may apply for as many open jobs as you wish, but a separate application or résumé must be submitted for each. Also, the job for which you are applying should be indicated on each. |

Should I attach anything to my application? |

If you have a résumé, you may submit it with an application that is faxed, mailed or delivered, but any other materials should be kept for an interview, unless otherwise noted in the job announcement. Please do not bind your application. PLEASE NOTE: currently, no attachments can be submitted with an online application. |

Can I withdraw or change the desired position on my application after I have submitted it to Human Resources? |

How long is my application for employment kept on file? |

Six months from the date of the original application. Applications become inactive after six months, and a new application will need to be completed and submitted in order to apply again. Also, if you are still under consideration for a position for which you have applied, but wish to apply for an additional position, another application will need to be submitted. |

How long can I expect to wait to be contacted after submitting an application? |

The selection process takes a minimum of two weeks from the final closing date. Some hiring supervisors take several weeks to select applicants for interviews. |

Those selected for interviews will be contacted by the hiring supervisor. Applicants will be notified by mail when the position is filled. |

Will I have to complete any testing for positions with the City of Irving? |

The City of Irving does pre-employment drug testing for all positions.
Skills testing may be administered for certain positions. Applicants selected for testing will be contacted by Human Resources or the hiring supervisor regarding dates and times.
Firefighter and police officer positions fall under civil service regulations, so applicants must take an entrance exam. You may register for this exam by calling 972.721.2532 during regular business hours. |
