Oct. 15 | Irving Residents to Watch Debates: Discuss Issues with Friends and Neighbors

The Irving Public Library and the Irving League of Women Voters (LWV) will offer the public an opportunity to watch the upcoming presidential debates, and then discuss the issues with friends and neighbors.

“We’re delighted to provide people with the chance to become informed about the issues, and to reflect on how the proposals of the candidates can impact their lives,” said Carol Huntley Little, president of the Irving LWV. The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government.

The presidential debates will air at 8 p.m. Oct. 15, along with the vice presidential debate at 8 p.m. Oct. 2. The debates will be broadcast on the big screen in the Central Library Auditorium, 801 W. Irving Blvd. A moderated discussion of the issues raised will follow each debate.

“Encouraging an informed electorate is one of the traditional roles of the public library,” said Chris Dobson, adult services supervisor. “We hope residents will take advantage of our nonpartisan setting to explore the merits of each candidate’s positions.”

The last day to register to vote for the Nov. 4 election is Oct. 6.
