How Do I Volunteer to Help with Teen Court?
The Irving Teen Court welcomes applications for staff positions of juror, court clerk, bailiff, and either prosecutor or defense attorney. Any teen between the ages of 14 and 17 years may apply, as well as others (18 and 19 years old) currently enrolled in high school.
Teen Court is held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. Teen volunteers are asked to commit to serving regularly for at least four months (February-May, June-September or October-January).
Staff orientation/attorney training sessions are held in January, May and September, usually on a Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Staff attorneys are required to go through training; however, other staff orientation is optional.
Adults are needed to assist with check-in of jurors, making jury assignments, overseeing the courtrooms and handling checkout of defendants. They are also asked to commit to serving at least once a month for a four-month term.
