Council Size and Electoral Process–The Irving City Council consists of a mayor and eight council members who are elected at large. Those elected to Places 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 are required to live in a certain area of the city and are elected to those districts, while the mayor and council members in Places 2 and 8 can reside anywhere in Irving. All council members serve three-year terms.
