  1. North Texas Teen Book Festival 2018

    April 21, 2018, 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM @ Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas

    Readers of teen and tween literature, hold on to your bookmarks! Seventy-six of the nation's best and newest Young Adult and Middle Grade authors are coming to the North Texas Teen Book Festival, including Dav Pilkey (Captain Underpants series), Angela Thomas (The Hate U Give), Cassandra Clare (Mortal Instruments series), Leigh Bardugo (Language of Thorns), Jenny Han (Always and Forever, Lara Jean), Gayle Forman (I Have Lost My Way), and Jennifer and Matthew Holm (Babymouse series). Participate in panel discussions, cutting-edge publisher events and book signings. Wristbands required for select signing lines and publisher events. Sponsored by the City of Irving and Friends of the Irving Public Library.

  2. One District One Book: The Mouse and the Motorcycle Read-In

    April 24, 2018, 4:30 PM - 8:00 PM @ all Irving Public Library locations (check below for event time information).

    What happens when a mouse discovers a motorcycle just his size, and it's bright and shiny, red and fast? Find out by reading this year's One District, One Book selection, The Mouse and the Motorcycle by Newbery Award-winning author Beverly Cleary. Make mouse crafts and read all about Ralph and his escapades in specially-reserved areas of the libraries.

    From 4:30-6 p.m., Tuesday, April 24:
    East Branch Library, 440 S. Nursery Drive: Activities include watching a movie based on the book.
    South Irving Library, 601 Schulze Drive.
    West Irving Library, 4444 W. Rochelle Road.

    From 7-8 p.m., Valley Ranch Library at 401 Cimarron Trail will have a special session of Family Storytime, with parents welcome.

    That's not all! Later in the week, at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, April 27, West Irving Library presents an encore showing of the movie.

    One District One Book is a collaboration with the Irving Independent School District and Irving Public Library. For grades K-5.

  4. Poetry in the Park: A Celebration of National Poetry Month

    Gather the entire family, pack a picnic, a blanket, and your favorite poems, and enjoy readings and performances by local poets.

  3. FIT (Families in Training) for Health Series: Social Support & Communication

    April 26, 2018, 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM @ Valley Ranch Library Glass Alcove

    Families are invited to an 11-part series promoting health through physical activities, lifestyle coaching and nutrition. No registration is required. It's encouraged that families attend each weekly session through May 10, but walk-ins on other program dates are welcome. When arriving, please check at the library's front desk for the class location.

    The series continues in May. Funded by the National Institutes of Health (Dr. Heather Kitzman, Baylor Scott & White Health) in collaboration with the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas.   1. Girls Who Code

    Girls in grades 6-12 are invited to join up every other Saturday and learn how to code! We'll learn HTML, SQL, JavaScript and CSS for websites, animation and more. Space is limited and registration is required. Sign-up for this class begins on April 23 at the Valley Ranch Library Information Desk. Participants must bring their own laptops.
