Energy Conservation Saves Money

Energy Conservation Saves Money

Reducing energy use means saving fossil fuels, the primary source of energy. If every American home replaced just one light bulb with an Energy Star-qualified bulb, this would save enough energy to light more than 3 million homes for one year and prevent greenhouse gases equivalent to the emissions of more than 800,000 cars.

Each year, more than $13 billion worth of energy leaks from houses through small holes and cracks. This costs each family more than $150 per year.

Energy conservation tips

  • Install weather stripping around doors and caulk cracks around windows.
  • Clean the lint trap on the clothes dryer before every load or hang clothes to dry.
  • Repair leaky air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
  • Reduce air conditioning and heating use.
  • Install insulation for the home, water heater and pipes.
