Irving PD Participating in National Take Back Oct. 28

Irving PD Participating in National Take Back April 29

Irving residents have the opportunity to drop off controlled pharmaceutical substances for proper disposal as part of the National Take Back initiative. There is no cost to participate.

10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Oct. 28:

  • Irving Police Department parking lot, 305 N. O'Connor Road
  • Irving Police North Station parking lot, 5992 Riverside Drive

The program is a partnership between the Irving Police Department, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and other participating law enforcement agencies. Improper disposal of these medications can lead to unintentional use by infants, children and pets.

Collection Day Protocols

Controlled, noncontrolled and over-the-counter medications may be collected from individuals. The general public is often unaware of the distinction in medication status.

  • Intravenous solutions, injectable medications and syringes will not be accepted due to potential hazard posed by bloodborne pathogens.
  • This program is anonymous, and all efforts should be made to protect the anonymity of individuals disposing of medications.
  • Participants may dispose of medication in its original container or by removing the medication from its container and disposing of it directly into the disposal box.
  • Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain sealed in their original container. The depositor should ensure that the cap is tightly sealed to prevent leakage.
  • Illicit substances such as marijuana or methamphetamine are not a part of this initiative and should not be placed in collection containers.
  • This is for the general public only. Pharmacies, physicians, veterinarians, etc., cannot dispose of their products at this event.
