Sometimes you're in the mood to read a book, and driving to the library just isn't convenient. Which is a great reason for checking out the library's eBook collections. This spring, give the AXIS 360 collection a try. You can find new titles, hot authors and a wide selection of topics and genres. Whether you want to spend an afternoon unraveling a mystery in 19th century New York, picking out healthy recipes to make, or laughing along while reading to your kids, you'll find a eBook for nearly every mood.
AXIS 360 eBooks can be checked out and read using Android smartphones and tablets (including Amazon Kindle Fire), Apple iPads and iPhones, and Windows / Mac / Chromebook PCs and laptops. All you need is a current Irving Public Library card.
In 2017 we're consolidating our eBook collections, reversing the trend of adding a new collection every couple of years. Over the past decade we've added OverDrive, 3M Cloud Library, AXIS 360 and in finally, Hoopla Digital. As more eBook vendors entered the market, competition has improved title selection, methods for purchasing books, and user experience.
The business of library eBooks has also improved to the point that today nearly every eBook vendor offers the same titles, and it's fairly easy to move titles from one vendor platform to another. We are taking advantage of this new opportunity to consolidate most of our curated eBooks into a single collection, AXIS 360.
Beginning May 9, the 3M Cloud Library eBook collection will be migrating to AXIS 360. Expect all the same Cloud Library eBooks, just in a new place. Towards the end of summer, a second consolidation takes place, when the OverDrive eBook and audiobook collections will be migrated to AXIS 360. These two moves will save us thousands of dollars in maintenance costs, while improving your ability to locate and checkout eBooks (and in the case of OverDrive, digital audiobooks). Hoopla Digital will stay put, as it offers us unique titles not available anywhere else.
