Kids and Family Events in January

A new year has begun, but who said that the excitement of winter has to come to a close? At Irving Public Library we are gearing up for what will be a fantastic month of family festivities, book-themed celebrations the kids will love, and special observances. Find out more about events going on at a location near you.


Book Bashes

Chronicles of Narnia Celebration, 7 p.m. Jan. 13

Valley Ranch Library, 401 Cimarron Trail

Fans of the series will enjoy a special screening of the movie, crafts, and Turkish Delight during this after-hours event!


The Very Hungry Caterpillar: Celebrating Eric Carle, 2:30 p.m. Jan. 16

East Branch Library, 440 S. Nursery Road

Enjoy a puppet show, crafts, games, and a visit from the Very Hungry Caterpillar.


Book It! Dork Diaries vs. Diary of a Wimpy Kid, 2 p.m. Jan. 17

South Irving Library, 601 Schulze Drive

Kids in grades K-5 can make slime and bracelets, DIY journals and play trivia in this battle of the Diaries.


Holidays and Cultural Events

Chinese New Year Celebration with the Lion Dance, 2:30 p.m. Jan. 14

East Branch Library, 440 S. Nursery Road

Bring in a year of good fortune with a Lion Dance by J.K. Wong Studios, followed by children's crafts.


MLK Day Family Movie, 2:30 p.m. Jan. 16

Valley Ranch Library, 401 Cimarron Trail

Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday with a special screening of The Watsons go to Birmingham. Rated PG 1hr. 26 min.


STEM (Science-Technology-Engineering-Math) Events

Block Party, 4:00 p.m. Jan. 20
South Irving Library, 601 Schulze Dr.
Calling all LEGO fanatics. Stop by the Block Party and show some of your building skills. We will provide the building materials, you bring your imagination.
